Beat the Heat, Watch on Repeat

As we inch into mid-July and the gunpowder from Independence Day fireworks finally dissipates and settles on the ground like an ashy, foul-smelling snow, it comes time once again to face the fact that, like it or not, it's Summer.  For some, summer means long, lazy days spent at the beach or in the park, full of barbeques, bikinis, and melty ice cream cones.  These people are are insane madmen who are not to be trusted.  For the rest of us, summer is a time to stay indoors and near the air conditioning, cowering away from the sun like it was some kind of vengeful God.

Point is, it's hot out there.  Why not stay indoors and expand the depth and breadth of your pop culture acumen by doing a few complete-series re-watches of your favorite shows?  And sure, you could plow through your box set of 'The Sopranos' or 'The Wire' for the umpteenth time, but given the brain-boiling heat outside, wouldn't you prefer something a little more... digestible?  Might we suggest starting with Season One, Episode One of Wainy Days and working your way through the entire series?  Or Pilot Season?  Or Back on Topps?

It's easy, just pour yourself a nice cool glass of Four Loko, aim that oscillating fan at your genitals, click play, and check another one of your life's goals off the list.

Josh Gad, reviewed

Hopefully by now you've had a chance to Speak, Learn English and Donate Good Cause with everyone's favorite new cousin from the old world, Gigi. And surely you've heard about the new Broadway hit "The Book of Mormon," from South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, which just happens to star one Mr. Josh Gad, the man behind Gigi.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Josh "may be giving the single funniest, most endearing performances on Broadway." And Variety says Josh plays his part "with a nervous cackle and the gentility of a young John Belushi." Not too shabby coming from two of entertainment reporting's most enduring and respected publications.

Want to hear what Josh has to say about getting involved in "The Book of Mormon?" Then check out his interview in this Entertainment Weekly interview.

But maybe you don't live near Broadway, or can't get tickets. Don't worry, 'cause Josh is here on My Damn Channel every week as Gigi. So tell your friends, tell your family, and tell your huddled masses yearning to breathe free..

The Book of Mormon on ABC News

The headline of ABC's video reads, "South Park Creators Invade Broadway" with a subheadline of "Jake Tapper chats with the creators of Broadway's show, The Book of Mormon." I'd add a sub-subheadline to say that Jake Trapper is a South Park superfan, and that he's living out his dream of interviewing Matt and Trey. Robin Roberts even punks him out at the beginning of this video about what a fanboy he is.

But can you blame him?

South Park has been a hit for years and preview showings of The Book of Mormon are blowing minds. John August, writer of the movie Big Fish and Corpse Bride, recently tweeted, "BOOK OF MORMON is as good as everyone raves. Envy is the most sincere form of flattery." And check out this from Penn Jillette of Penn and Teller - Teller and I are at intermission at our old broadway theater watching The Book of Mormon. It may be the greatest thing I've ever seen."

It's time for us to stop being modest! We have the star of The Book of Mormon, Josh Gad, launching a new show called Gigi: Almost American THIS WEDNESDAY! 3/23. March 23rd, 2011!

A day that will live in infamy.

Until then, watch the promos and trailer and spread the word.

Gigi Premieres March 23

Our pal Josh Gad is, as they say, blowin' up big time, with supporting roles in big-budget Hollywood melodramas and a co-lead role in the new Broadway hit The Book of Mormon, the latter of which is currently making the critics swoon, Outer Darkness be damned.  And Josh will also be on the Today Show tomorrow morning, Saturday March 19th, to further his Gadian agenda.  So set your alarm, wake up early, and tune in to NBC.

If that wasn't enough, Josh is set to unleash the final prong of his multilevel media-domination masterplan next week in the form of Gigi: Almost American, which premieres right here on My Damn Channel next week, starting March 23.

Part Borat, part Latka Gravas, and all Gad, Gigi is the befuddled, accident-prone outsider lurking inside all of us: earnest, well-meaning, and utterly clueless.  So stop by next Wednesday, grab a pig dog, roll down your windows, and howl at the moon.
