Put A Tony Danza On It

After watching Mark Malkoff's "Free Cab Rides" video, we were particularly struck by the part where Mark and his driver Sean decide to "Tony Danza" the cab.

Brilliant.

An ode to Tony Danza's turn in TAXI, sure, but why not an ode to Tony Danza in general? We're ashamed to admit that we think about Who's The Boss? on almost a daily basis. Like, who WAS the boss? That question has boggled us since we were seven. So, we thought, let's Tony Danza some sh*t.

(Jeff Bezos "Put A Tony Danza" on the Kindle Fire!)

(Wanna make How To Make It In America a better show?
"Put A Tony Danza On It!")

Here, maybe you wanna "Put A Tony Danza On It" yourself?

Go for it! You know how on Portlandia they "Put A Bird On It?" Well, maybe the rest of us should "Put A Tony Danza On It." Maybe you want to help a new generation embrace a beloved 80's sitcom star due to an obscure but indefatigable movement to put his likeness in unexpected places!

Or, you know, maybe you're just bored and you don't suck at Photoshop. Either of those reasons could lead to a perfectly acceptable decision to "Put A Tony Danza On It." Just be sure to let us know if you do.

The Artist Formerly Known as Chunk

We don't want to brag, but, uh, well, the guy in this picture recommending on his Facebook Page that you check out The Worst Generation is none other than The Artist Formerly Known as "Chunk" from The Goonies.

And even though he's now a big, fancy lawyer in LA, we'll always have a soft spot for The Truffle Shuffle.

My Damn Channel SXSW pix!

"Sandwiches & Shorts" screened the winners of the Subway Fresh Artists Filmmakers Challenge at the IFC Crossroads House at SXSW. Grace was there as hostess with the mostest, Rob made his way around the scene, and the Fresh Artists winners were there in full effect. SXSW was a blast (but we've gotta get back to work now).

Hope you followed us on Tumblr & Twitter!

"Do Whatever" and "Jeff & Ravi" at SXSW

As you may already know, My Damn Channel has partnered with the fine folks at Subway and the USC Film School to debut the winners of the Subway Fresh Artists Featured Filmmakers challenge.

Unfortunately, Jeff & Ravi Fail History and Do Whatever proved far too awesome to be contained by the ones and zeros of the internet alone, which is why we’ve been forced to take the show on the road, to the world famous SXSW Festival in Austin, TX.

My Damn Channel and Subway will be invading the IFC Crossroads House at 7th & Brazos this Sunday for “Shorts and Sandwiches”, which is pretty much what it sounds like, starting at 5:00 PM C/6:00 PM ET.  So stop by and check out the future of cinema.  Or, you know, maybe just grab some free food and laugh your ass off.  Either way, be sure keep up with all the latest SXSW action on Twitter and Tumblr, and spread the word as you feel appropriate.

Kinda makes you wish you tried a little harder back in school, huh?

Subway, USC, and My Damn Channel

Hey! We're hosting the winners of the Subway Fresh Artists contest in conjuntion with USC. Check out 3 episodes from each winning team. Odds are you'll see/hear these names again since not a year has passed since 1973 without a USC alumnus or alumna being nominated for an Academy Award. Pretty ballin', right?

Do Whatever – A scripted comedy series from Andy Landan, Giles Andrew, and Alice Mathias featuring an overworked junior lawyer who convinces his computer genius friend to quit his job and start a business with him doing jobs that nobody else wants to do.

Jeff and Ravi Fail History – A scripted buddy comedy sci-fi series from R.J. Daniel Hanna,  F. Brian Scolfield and Ian Ward following a jovial slacker and his astrophysicist roommate as they stumble their way from the dawn of man to a post-apocalyptic future in a sputtering time machine.

Vegas, Baby, Vegas!

Last weekend My Damn Channel founder/CEO Rob Barnett hosted all-star panel for the closing keynote at the Blogworld & New Media Expo in Las Vegas.

Some of Rob's old friends like Penn Jillette and Adam Carolla and some of Rob's new friends like Mark Malkoff, Cali Lewis and Jeff Hayzlett joined Rob onstage to chat about the ever-changing world of New Media (we named them for you from left to right):

Here's the whole gang together, including the event's MC, Shira Lazar (third from left):

And a lot of you are sad you missed it.  A lot of you probably didn't even know you should've been in Vegas last weekend!  Don't fear!  You can watch the video here!  Fast forward to the 17:55 mark to see what might be the best thing to happen in Vegas since legalized gambling and stripper poles:

But wait, there's more!

Mark Malkoff filmed some special footage just for you while he was at Blogworld!  We'll have it for you soon.  In the meantime, listen to Adam Carolla's podcast as he rants about Blogworld.  Later this week, Adam may even have a special appearance by Mark Malkoff and our very own fearless leader Rob Barnett.  Check it out now and be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter to find out the minute the podcast with Rob and Mark goes live.

Videoblogger Detained

Posted in Alive in Baghdad, GuestBlogger with tags videoblogging, China, activism, Brian Conley, Alive in Baghdad on 8/20/2008 1:01:48 PM by Lauren Galanter

Lauren Galanter here, Content & Video Manager for My Damn Channel. Today I'm guest blogging something important which I just found out about.

Before joining the My Damn Channel family, I was an editor for Alive in Baghdad. Brian Conley, the creator, has been detained in Beijing. From the statement of Students for a Free Tibet, the group Conley was working with:

"Beijing - Brian Conley, creator of the well-known videoblog, Alive in Baghdad, was detained with his friend, Jeffrey Rae, early Tuesday, August 19th in Beijing. Their detention appears to have taken place at the same time as that of international artist James Powderly, whose detention was reported Tuesday. Three other bloggers and activists, Jeff Goldin, Michael Liss, and Tom Grant, have also been missing since Tuesday morning. Conley, 28, Rae, 28, Goldin, 40, Liss, 35, Grant, 39 are all American citizens."

Our content is different here, but we share the same goal of breaking new ground in online video. Spread the word to help a fellow video pioneer!

The article on SFT, to be updated with ways to help.

UPDATE: Conley and others given 10 day sentence
