Bob Dylan Signs Six Book Deal?!

It's no secret that we love Bob Dylan at My Damn Channel, so we were extremely excited to read on IFC.com that it's rumored Bob Dylan has signed a six book deal, and will continue his enlightening, though typically enigmatic, memoir series "Chronicles".  The first volume was released in 2004, so it's been a while since we've had the privilege to enter the mind of Mr. Dylan.

And even though it's just a rumor, we're confident that it's gonna happen.  Why?  Well, we first heard the news via IFC, who just so happen to have content from their new series "Portlandia" on My Damn Channel.

Coincidence?  I think not!

So while we're waiting for "Portlandia" to premiere tomorrow at 10:30pm on IFC, and for the next Dylan volume to come out in who knows how long, enjoy this performance from Sweet Pea Atkinson, a soul singing legend who has recorded with Bob Dylan.

HOW DOES IT FEEL?

Posted in Bob Dylan with tags Bob Dylan, detained, Long Branch, N.J., Woodstock on 8/16/2009 6:52:35 AM by Rob Barnett

I'm watching a rebroadcast of the original Woodstock movie on the 40th anniversary and reading the news that broke a few days ago about Bob Dylan.

Dylan didn't play the Woodstock festival, but his unique magic has some roots in the earth and mud  surrounding this holy ground 90 miles northwest of New York City.

Long Branch, N.J. is about 150 miles south of the spot where a 3-day festival in 1969 became an external example of rock's power to create community.

Bob Dylan was walking through this oceanfront community last month - taking a break during his never-ending tour. Dylan was reportedly on a stroll looking at houses when he was detained by two officer in their 20's suspecting him of suspicious behavoir.

The reason the story captured the world's attention is that neither of the officers had any idea of who Bob Dylan was. The incident was resolved peacefully and the best part of the news mentions how cool Dylan was about the whole thing.

Here's hoping the officers are online now - buying some of his music.

HAPPY BOB DAY

A wise friend named Abe just reminded me to share these words of wisdom from Mr. Bob Dylan.

Happy Birthday Bob: Thanks for your life-altering, constantly inspiring opinions.

"Oh ... there's always people trying to tell you how to do

everything in your life. If you really don't know what to do and you

don't care what to do - then just ask somebody's opinion. You'll

get a million different opinions. If you don't want to do something,

ask someone's opinion and they'll just verify it for you.

The easiest way to do something is to just not ask anybody's opinion. I mean if

you really believe in what you're doing ... I've just asked people's

opinion and it's been a great mistake, in different areas. In my

personal life, I've asked people what do you think about doing this

and they've said ... Oh Wow! ...! You know, and you end up not

using it or else using it wrong....

Yeah, you know what's right. When those things come you

know what's right. A lot of times you might be farming around and

not knowing what's right and you might do something dumb, but

that's only because you don't know what to do on the first place.

But if you know what's right and it strikes you at a certain time

then you can usually believe that instinct. And if you act on it, then

you'll be successful at it. Whatever it is."

MR. DYLAN ANSWERS

Posted in Bob Dylan with tags Bob Dylan, Bill Flanagan on 4/11/2009 9:27:53 AM by Rob Barnett

A new Bob Dylan album is on the way. Here's an excerpt from a new interview by Bill Flanagan with a link below to much more. He talks a bunch about Obama, about dreams, and his work.

Are you a mystical person?

Absolutely.

Any thoughts about why?

I think it’s the land. The streams, the forests, the vast emptiness. The land created me. I’m wild and lonesome. Even as I travel the cities, I‘m more at home in the vacant lots. But I have a love for humankind, a love of truth, and a love of justice. I think I have a dualistic nature. I’m more of an adventurous type than a relationship type.

But the album is all about love – love found, love lost, love remembered, love denied.

Inspiration is hard to come by. You have to take it where you find it.

DYLAN ON OBAMA

Posted in Bob Dylan, Obama with tags Bob Dylan, Barack Obama on 6/6/2008 3:28:00 AM by Rob Barnett

The Times of London spoke to Bob Dylan on tour in Denmark.

"Well, you know right now America is in a state of upheaval," he says.

"Poverty is demoralising. You can't expect people to have the virtue of purity when they are poor. But we've got this guy out there now who is redefining the nature of politics from the ground up...Barack Obama.

He's redefining what a politician is, so we'll have to see how things play out.

Am I hopeful? Yes, I'm hopeful that things might change. Some things are going to have to.

"You should always take the best from the past, leave the worst back there and go forward into the future."
